Seykora Named New Diving Coach at Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis, June 19. JOSH Seykora, formerly of the University of Illinois, has been named the new diving coach at the University of Wisconsin, Badger head swimming coach Eric Hansen announced Thursday. Seykora replaces Lee-Jay Strifler who spent four seasons at Wisconsin.

"Our diving program has been in need of a jumpstart," Hansen said. "I feel Josh is a person who can come in and allow our divers to be competitive at a national level. His integrity and passion for the sport will go a long way in helping to establish our diving program."

A 1998 graduate of the University of Iowa, Seykora was a four-year letterwinner with the Hawkeyes and earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science.

Seykora spent the past three seasons as a graduate assistant and diving coach with the women's program at Illinois. During the 2001-02 season, Seykora coached three Illini divers to their first career NCAA Diving Zone qualifying scores. It was Illinois' first appearance at the Zone Championship meet in over nine years.

Prior to coming to Illinois, Seykora served as a United States Diving club coach at the Dick Rydez Diving Club. He worked with a squad of junior high and high school divers, including two that went on to compete in the Big Ten. Seykora also served as a coach at the high school level, directing the program at both Iowa City and Iowa City West High Schools in 1998. He coached four Iowa state championship finalists and one future state champion.
