Nederpelt Takes Seventh Gold at Aussie Age Champs

BRISBANE, Qld., Australia, April 30. SEVENTEEN year-old Travis Nederpelt took his individual medal tally to seven gold on the final night of competition at the Australian Age Championships. The West Aussie had wins in the boys 17-18 years 200 IM, clocking 2:04.80 (just under half-a-second outside Matt Dunn's '91 record) and then the 200 fly in a 1:59.85.

Thirteen-year-old Stephanie Williams from New South Wales rounded-off an eye-catching meet taking her fifth individual gold of the champs in the 200 backstroke in a new national age record 2:16.16. Williams collected four Australian Age records for the meet.

Western Aussie, Matt Lenton, set a new national mark in the boys 16 years 50 freestyle touching in 23.36. Lenton trimmed 0.03 seconds off the seven year-old record set held by former national open champion Nathan Rickard.

Melbourne-based Andrew Lauterstein broke the national mark for boys 15 years 100 backstroke clocking 58.03 in taking his third gold for the meet.

World championships team member, Alice Mills swam 25.23 in another hot 50 free, this time in her individual final tonight. Sixteen-year-old Mills had already set a PR 25.22 in a relay lead earlier in the meet (2nd fastest Aussie all-time performer).
