Russ Patrick Stars as Three World Masters Marks Fall in Canadian Provincial Championships

CALGARY, Alberta, Canada, April 2. THREE Masters world records tumbled at the Alberta Provincial Championships held last weekend at the Talisman Centre in Calgary.

Russ Patrick, 27, Calgary Masters Swim Club (CMSC0, accounted for two of the new marks and took part in the third. Swimming in the men's 25-29 division, Russ stroked the short course 50 meter breaststroke in 27.69 seconds, taking a full second off the old mark of 28.69 set by Japan's Hideaki Togo in 1999.

In the 100m breast, Patrick's 1:02.61 bettered Togo's 1:02.87, also set in 1999.

The third mark came in the men's 120-159 200 meter medley relay. The CMSC "A" team of Jeff Welechuk, 33; Patrick; Mark Jesse, 28; and Peter Henry, 32 blazed a time of 1:44.09.

The previous record of 1:45.01 had been sqet nine years ago by the USA's Baylor/Lone Star team of Jay Yarid, Greg Rhodenbaugh, Bobby Patten and Mook Rhodenbaugh.
