Women’s Water Polo: ASU Drubs Pomona for Fourth Win in a Row

CLAREMONT, Calif., March 25. BALANCED scoring and tough defense led the No. 20 Arizona State women's water polo team to its fourth win in a row Sunday as
the Sun Devils defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 10-3, in the final game of the Claremont Colleges Tournament in Claremont, Calif.

Six different ASU players scored a goal with four of them scoring twice, and nine players recording one assist apiece in the win that brought the Sun Devils to 16-9 on the year.

PPC got on the board first to take an early 1-0 lead before ASU responded with two goals in the same frame to take a lead it would not surrender.

Coming out of halftime with a 5-1 lead, the Sun Devils
added another three goals in the third before tallying two more in the fourth to take the game easily, 10-3.

Katie Davis (Jr., Riverside, Calif.), Gili Kollan (So., Kiriat Bialek, Israel), Daya Mau (Fr., Honolulu, Hawai'i) and Tessa Wyborny (Fr., Walnut Creek, Calif.) each scored two goals in the game while Ashely Orzalli (Jr., Acampo, Calif.) and Robin Kimbrell (Jr.,
Huntington Beach, Calif.) added one goal apiece.

The four goal scorers extended their scoring streaks again with Kollan pushing hers to a team-high 12 games in a row (30 points on 18 goals and 12 assists). Davis is up to nine games with 23 points (14G, 9A) while
Mau (11-4-15) and Wyborny (6-4-10) each have six game streaks going.

Assisting on the goals were Davis, Bryn Kuech (So., Bonsall, Calif.), Lindsey Murillo (So., Novato, Calif.), Orzalli, Lena Soghomonian (So., Belmont, Calif.), Kim Stevens (Fr., Lodi, Calif.), Wyborny,
Kimbrell and Lizzie Houck (Fr., San Diego, Calif.).

Houck, the starting goalie, also recorded 10 saves and Kristie Meyer (Fr., Reno, Nev.) added two stops of her own.

The Sun Devils scored two of the their goals with the man advantage on three tries and kept PPC scoreless on two advantage tries in the contest.

Arizona State plays host to No. 13 UC Irvine at 1 p.m. Wednesday and No. 11 UC Santa Barbara at 4 p.m. Thursday
