Women’s Water Polo: ASU Falls to CSUN, 5-4

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 22. HOLDING a national ranking has been tough on the No. 20 Arizona State women's water polo team this year. For the fifth time this
year, the Sun Devils entered a game as the No. 20 team in the nation and exited the pool with a loss, this time a 5-4 setback to Cal State Northridge in a game contested in Irvine, Calif.

Katie Davis (Jr., Riverside, Calif.) and Bryn Kuech (So., Bonsall, Calif.) each scored a goal and assisted on another to pace the ASU offense that scored one goal in each frame. Catharine Taber (Jr., Clayton, Calif.) and Gili Kollan (So., Kiriat Bialik, Israel) added the other goals in the loss.

Tessa Wyborny (Fr., Walnut Creek, Calif.) assisted on a goal, as did Daya Mau (Fr., Honolulu, Hawai'i).
Mau recorded her fifth-consecutive game with at least one point (a goal or an assist) to tie for the longest streak of the season.

In goal, Lizzie Houck (Fr., San Diego, Calif.) made five saves while allowing five goals. The fifth goal came in the final period of action after the Sun Devil defense held the Matadors scoreless in the third quarter. ASU tallied one goal in each of the quarters of play.

Also on defense, Kuech recorded four steals to keep the CSUN scoring opportunities to a minimum.

The Sun Devils return to action for the final time this weekend with a 5:15 p.m. game with No. 18 UC Irvine. The game will be played at the home of the Anteaters, the Anteater Aquatic Center.
