NCAA Div. II: Ouachita’s Lady Tiger Sharks Sweep, Men Go 2-1 in Delta State Meet

CLEVELAND, Miss., Jan. 27. THE Ouachita Baptist University Lady Tiger Sharks earned a sweep of the rest of the field and the Tiger Sharks lost only to host Delta State in the Delta State Dual Meet over the weekend.

The Lady Tiger Sharks defeated Delta State (59-54), Hendrix (94-10), Rhodes (92-16)and Arkansas-Little Rock (60-31) while the Tiger Sharks defeated Hendrix (94-10) and Rhodes (92-17) and lost to Delta State (74-37).

The Lady Tiger Sharks finished in first place in six events during the meet. Sophomore Emily Looney won three events to lead the Lady Tiger Shark attack. Looney won the 1000-yard freestyle, the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle events. Looney and junior Cindy Allred finished in the first and second places in the 200-yard IM for Ouachita.

Junior Kelly McGowan earned a first-place finish for Ouachita in the 50-yard freestyle and sophomore Ksenija Kraic won the 100-yard backstroke for the Lady Tiger Sharks. The Lady Tiger Sharks also got a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay from the team of Louise Griffin, Syd Barker, Dana Power, and McGowan.

On the men’s side, junior Mike Waldrop and sophomore Matt Knips finished in first and second places, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Chris Achey, Rinaldo Sintjago, Adam Weaber, and Justin Boyd finished in first for the Tiger Sharks and Ouachita got a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay event from Jon Manning, Knips, Chris Landreneau and Archie Prentice.

The Lady Tiger Sharks and Tiger Sharks will return to action when they host Henderson State in their final home meet of the season on Friday, January 31, at 7 p.m. at Waggoner Pool.
