Josh Ilika Sets Mexican National Mark in 100m Fly, 51.89, at Short Course National Champs

GUADALAJARA, Jalisco, Mexico, December 30. FORMER USC star, Josh Ilika, now swimming for Circle C Swim Club in Austin, swam to a Mexican national record of 51.89 seconds for the 100 meters butterfly to highlight action at the Mexican National Short Course Championships in Guadalajara.

Ilika's time, which ranks seventh in the world for the 2002-03 short course season, is faster than the US short course standard of 52.00 held by Ilika's Circle C teammate, Nate Dusing.

The state of Mexico easily won the team scoring crown wiith 1,282 points, followed by Jalisco (626), Distrito Federal (523.5) and Nuevo Leon (510).

Atenas Lopez set a Mexican national record, as she clocked 2:02.65 for the 200m freestyle. The time also goes into the books as a national age group mark for girls 15-17.

Three other age group records were set:
* Pablo Marmolejo, boys 15-17 200m fly, 2:02.78.

* Oscar oliva, boys 13-14, 200m IM, 2:11.56

* Alejandra Galan, girls 13-14, 200m free, 2:04.34.
