NCAA Div. I Women: Texas Dunks Rice

HOUSTON, Texas, Nov. 23. THE No. 6-ranked University of Texas women's swimming and diving team improved to 3-1 on the season after defeating Rice on Saturday afternoon, 149-110 at the Rice pool in Houston. The Longhorns captured victories in six events en route to
the victory.

After opening the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, Texas took control of the scoring by taking the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle. Senior All-American Tanica Jamison (Dublin, Calif.) took the top spot with a mark of 1:51.01, while
junior Jenna Bridges (Tallahassee, Fla.) and freshman Jaclyn Faulkner (Metarie, La.) rounded out the top three with times of 1:52.99 and 1:56.99, respectively.

Before the 200-yard freestyle, the foursome of sophomores Sarah Wanezek (Brookfield, Wis.) and Kaela Humphries (Chaska, Minn.), junior Lacey Elliott (El Paso, Texas) and senior Joscelin Yeo (Republic of Singapore) captured the 200-yard medley relay with a
mark of 1:45.50. Jamison, junior Martha Guleke (Austin, Texas) and freshmen Tracey Hemmerle (Harleysville, Pa.) and Jennifer Robbins (Atlanta, Ga.) posted a third-place finish in the event with a time of 1:49.28.

Three members of Texas' victorious 200-yard medley relay team went on to win individual events later on in the afternoon. Wanezek would go on to win to win the 50-yard freestyle (23.29) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.00), while Yeo posted the top time in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.68) and Humphries was triumphant in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.64).

The Texas women's swimming and diving team will return to action from Thursday, Dec. 5 through Saturday, Dec. 7 as it will host the Texas Invitational at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center. Preliminaries will be held each day at 10 a.m., while the finals are
scheduled to begin daily at 6 p.m.
