UCLA Signs Fuccillo and Nelson

LOS ANGELES, November 15. UCLA Head coach Cyndi Gallagher has signed two top recruits to National Letters of Intent. Jeana Fuccillo and Katie Nelson will each enter as freshman for the 2003-04 school year.

Jeana Fuccillo (Lebanon, IL/Althoff Catholic HS) is a national junior team member and was a finalist in the 200 and 400 Individual Medley at the 2002 Senior National Championships. Fuccillo is a member of the Rockwood Swim Club and is coached by Mary Liston. Her top short course (yards) times are: 2:00.6 (200 IM), 4:18 (400 IM), 2:01 (200 Fly), 2:01 (200 Back), 1:03 (100 Breast), 2:17 (200 Breast). Long course (meters) bests are: 2:20 (200 IM), 4:54 (400 IM), 2:18 (200 Fly), 2:20 (200 Back),

Katie Nelson (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA/Peninsula HS) is a three-time YMCA national champion in the 1650 Free and a national record holder in the 1000 Free. She is a member of the San Pedro Peninsula YMCA club team and is coached by Bruin alumnus Dan Halladay. Nelson's top short course yards times are: 1:50 (200 Free), 4:50 (500 Free), 9:55 (1000 Free) and 16:27 (1650 Free).

"I am excited to have Jeana and Katie join our Bruin family," said Gallagher. "Jeana is an extremely versatile swimmer who will help us in several areas and who can be an NCAA qualifier in any number of events. Katie will bolster us in the distance freestyle events. Both Jeana and Katie will help us tremendously next season. Their work ethic and enthusiasm is contagious."
