Orange Edges Blue at Auburn Intrasquad Meet

AUBURN, Ala., Oct. 11. THE Orange team narrowly defeated the Blue team, 186.50-185.50, on Friday afternoon, as the Auburn swimming team held its annual Orange/Blue Intra-Squad meet at the James E. Martin
Aquatics Center.

In front of a raucous crowd of friends and family the two teams squared off in mixed competitions with male and females competing both with and against one another. All of the events were swum on a meters
course versus the regular collegiate yards course.

"Matt Kidd, Mark Gangloff and Ryan Hinz all looked strong for the men," Auburn Head Coach David Marsh said. "On the women's side, Kirsty Coventry and Margaret Hoelzer led the way. Overall there were a
lot of great swims for both sides. I think one of the highlights was watching Kelsey Patterson on the platform."

The meet, which is scored just like a regular dual meet, was made even closer when the Orange team was awarded points for its overall spirit and the spirit of the Orange Tiger Splashers.

Last year's national champions, the women's swimming and diving team will be recognized on Saturday prior to and during the Arkansas-Auburn football game set to kick off at 11:30 a.m. at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The 11 girls who competed in Austin, Texas, for the national championship will join the football team in Tiger Walk,
starting at 9:20. The entire women's team will then be recognized during a halftime ceremony in which they will receive their national championship rings.

AU will return to the pool competitively on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they travel north on I-85 to Atlanta for a dual meet with Georgia Tech.
