Jenny Wins the 100 Free in Montreal -- July 7, 2002

MONTREAL, July 6. JENNY Thompson continued to make some impressive splashes in her first appearance since announcing her comeback one month ago.

Swimming on the second day of the Quebec Cup at Olympic Park in Montreal, Thompson, 29, stroked to victory in the 100m free in 56.48, defeating Marianne Limpert, also 29, at 57.10. Yesterday, Thompson won the 100m fly in 59.97.

Women's Highlights
In other highlights, Rhiannon Leier, 25, completed her sweep of the breaststroke events, taking the 50 in 32.79 and the 200 in 2:32.35; Audrey LaCroix edged Jennifer Button in the 200m fly, 2:13.623 to 2:14.04.

Eighteen year-old Jennifer Fratesi won the 100 back in 1:03.60 to go with her superb 200m backstroke (2:13.05) victory yesterday. This time, though, it was harder, as she just beat Michelle Lischinsky (1:03.72) to the wall.

Sophie Simard won the 400 free to go along with her 200 meter win yesterday. Simard, 23, clocked 4:18.47, holding off a determined challenge by 15 year-old
Kelly Kim (4:19.11).


Men's Highlights

On the men's side, Scott Dickens won the 50 breast in 30.13, while Mike Brown took the 200 breast in 2:20.56, 13-hundredths ahead of Michel Boulianne.

Francois Castonguay finished first in the 200 fly in 2:06.68, and Brendan Neligan breezed to a 9-second victory in the 400 free (4:03.88).


Yannick Lupien had no trouble winning the 100 free in a solid 50.90 while Matt Grevers, 17, was the winner of the 100 back (59.23), as he edged Kurtis Miller (59.51), one year his junior
