Texas Men’s Swimming Signs 3 Recruits

From Penny Abrahams of UT – AUSTIN, TEXAS- Three standout high school men’s swimmers have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Texas beginning with the 1998-99 school year, Texas men’s head swim coach Eddie Reese announced.

Among the signees are Leffie Crawford (Pacifica, Calif./Junipero Serra High School), who specializes in the sprint freestyle and butterfly events. Crawford is the U.S. National Record Holder in the 50-yard freestyle for 15-16 year old boys (20.24).

Another Longhorn signee is Tom Hannan (Baltimore, Md./Mt. Saint Joseph High School), who swims the individual medley and backstroke events. Hannan was the 1997 Southeast Junior National Champion in both the 200m individual medley and the 100m backstroke.

The final signee is Joe Montague (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek High School), who competes in the individual medley and butterfly events. Montague is the nation’s top-ranked 17-18 year old boy in the 200m individual medley, and he also was a finalist in the 400m individual medley at the 1996 U.S. Olympic Trials.
