Noemi Lung Takes Over the Coaching Reins at Florida International

Miami, Florida, May 24. ROMANIAN Olympian Noemi Lung has been named the new head coach at Florida International University (FIU).

Lung previously served for four years as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Florida Atlantic, under head coach Steven Eckelkamp. She then worked at the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) before taking the FIU position.

"We have really been fortunate to get a very good person as Noemi in our team," said Dick Mello, FIU Athletic Director.

Lung's career was highlighted by a silver medal in the 400 IM at the 1988 Olympics behind the USA's Janet Evans.

The year before, she won the 400 IM at the European Championships in Strasbourg, finishing third in the 200 IM as well.

At the 1986 World Championships in madrid she finished third in the 400 IM.

Her European record in the short course 400 IM held up more than a decade before it was finally broken last December.
