College Academic All-American Swim Teams Named: 178 Make the Grade

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, May 6. THE 2001-2002 NCAA Academic All-American Swimming Teams were released and some 178 teams in all three NCAA divisions met the minimum requirement of a team grade point average of 2.80 or above. Interestingly, women's teams outperformed men's by almost a 2:1 margin, 116-62.

More swim teams achieved Academic All-America honors than teams in any other sport.

Two teams — the Div. I St. Francis University women (3.564) and the Div. III College of St. Catherine (3.561) — topped 3.50.

In general, the women's teams on the list scored better than the men's teams. Fourteen teams — 13 women's, one men's — had team gpa's of 3.40 or better. One hundred forty-one scored 3.00 or better — 103 women's teams and 38 men's.
