Irvine High Recaptures National High School Mark in Girls’ 200 Medley Relay

BELMONT SHORES, CA., April 23. THEY'RE BAAAAAACK!

Irvine High School's Vaqueros girls' swim team, which saw its national recored 1:44.80 for the 200 yard medley relay fall a couple of months ago to Ohio's Upper Arlington High's 1:44.74 at the Ohio state meet in Canton, regained the standard yesterday at the CIF Relays.

In a meet at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool, site of next month's Southern Section CIF Championships, the Vaqueros swam a 1:44.72 to break Upper Arlington's record by .02.

The Vaqueros' team was composed of backstroker Diana MacManus, breaststroker Jane Hwang, flyer Flora Kong and anchor Courtney Cashion.

All but Hwang were members of last year's record-setting team and MacManus won both the 100 and 200 meter backstrokes at last month's U,.S. Nationals.

A source close to the team said that at CIF next month they're "aiming for a sub 1:44.0."

The national independent school record is 1:45.33 by Florida's The Bolles School.
