USC’s Hartley, Arizona’s Ojeda Win again at NCAA Zone E Diving Champs

STANFORD, Calif., March 15. USC's Blythe Hartley and Arizona's Omar Ojeda won the women's 3-meter and men's 1-meter events, respectively, on the second day of the
2002 NCAA Zone E Diving Meet at the Maas Family Diving Center on Friday.

Hartley and Ojeda have both swept their respective events in the first two days of competition as Hartley won the women's 1-meter and Ojeda captured the men's 3-meter on the opening day of the meet Thursday. Hartley scored 556.35 points in the 3-meter on Friday, while Ojeda tallied 337.20 in the 1-meter.

Stanford's Ashlee Rosenthal finished second in the women's 3-meter with 480.25 points, closely followed by UCLA's Heidi Prosser with 478.55.

Arizona's Joshua Anderson made it a one-two wildcat sweep, finishing second in the men's 1-meter with 324.40 points. The battle for the third spot was intense, with Stanford's Peterson earning the bronze with 312.85 points over Tom McCrummen of ASU. Less than three points separated the third and sixth finishers.

After the first two days of competition, 11 divers have qualified for the NCAA Championships: seven women and four men.

The current seven women's NCAA qualifiers are Hartley, Sorgi (Stanford), Rosenthal (Stanford), Heidi Prosser (UCLA), Powers (Stanford), Dominica Fusaro (USC) and Sowa (Stanford).

The men's qualifiers are Ojeda, Justin Wilcock (BYU), Joshua Anderson (Arizona) and Adam Peterson (Stanford).

There are still two open spots for the NCAA¹s on both the men's and women's side that will be determined after the platform competition on Saturday.

The 2002 NCAA Zone E Diving Meet concludes with separate platform competitions for the women and men on Saturday (11:00 a.m.).
