Adamkova, Anderson Named ACC Swimmers of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C., Feb. 11. MARYLAND'S Petra Adamkova was named ACC Women's Swimmer of the Week today, while Virginia's Luke Anderson was named ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week.

Adamkova, a senior from Nachod, Czech Republic, was part of the Terrapins' 179-121 upset victory over No. 12 and previously undefeated Virginia. She won two events, the 50 free (23.21) and the 100 free (51.13) to go along with swimming a leg on the winning 400 free relay team (3:27.05). Her times in the 50-free and 100-free were both NCAA "B" standards and season-bests.

Adamkova's mark in the 50-free was the third fastest in the ACC while her time in the 100 free was the seventh best in the league this season.

Adamkova is the third Maryland swimmer to earn ACC Swimmer of the Week honors this season. Both freshman Elizabeth Lavell (Annapolis, Md.) and senior Thomas Ehrhardt (Ashaffenburg, Germany) were awarded the honor for the week of November 19.

Anderson, a sophomore from Charlottesville, Va., won two individual events and one relay in Virginia's 199-96 victory over Maryland. Anderson won the 100 free (44.97) by more than a second and the 200 free (1:38.49) by more than three seconds. He led the Cavaliers' 200 medley relay team to a win with a mark of 1:32.00.
