NCAA Div. I: Texas Beats ASU, Arizona Men: Arizona Women Down Texas, ASU

TUCSON, Ariz., Feb. 2. THE University of Texas No. 3 men's swimming and diving team picked up two dual meet victories, defeating No. 5 Arizona State (188.5-153.5) and No. 9 Arizona (183-145) to close out the third and final session of competition on Saturday afternoon at
the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.

The Texas women also delivered a dual meet win on Saturday over No. 7 Arizona State (156-91), but fell
just short against No. 9 Arizona (185-166).

Sophomore Brendan Hansen (Havertown, Pa.) and freshman Rainer Kendrick (Birmingham, Ala.) were the two lone individual event winners for the Longhorn men's squad during Saturday's afternoon competition. Hansen captured first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:00.35), while Kendrick took the 200 butterfly (1:48.26).

Senior Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) continued his season-long tear, taking top honors on the one-meter springboard with a score of 357.50. The two-time NCAA Diver of the Year is currently riding a five-meet winning streak on the one-meter board.

In women's action, junior Joscelyn Yeo (Republic of Singapore) and freshman Kaela Humphries (Chaska, Minn.) led the way during the third session of UT's victory over Arizona State. Yeo captured first against ASU in both the 100 freestyle (51.29) and the 200 butterfly (2:02.01), while Humphries won the 200 backstroke (2:03.44). Both of Yeo's times were good enough for NCAA "B" consideration.

Although scored as an exhibition, freshman diver Nicole Pohorenec (Winter Springs, Fla.) took top honors on the platform competition with a score of 247.70.

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, Feb. 9, when it travels to take on SMU in Dallas.
