A Tribute to Caleb Bohman, From His Teammates at the College of New Jersey

ON Sunday morning January 6, the men's swim team at The College of New Jersey and the swimming community as a whole experienced a great loss with the passing of 19-year-old freshman, Caleb Bohman. This sudden grievous tragedy has left the team in a state of shock and disbelief.

In Caleb's three short months here he touched our lives in a way that only he could. At 6 foot 5, 212 pounds, he was affectionately known as "the giant man," and he had a giant heart to match. He walked into our first meeting in September and had a smile on his face that never left. He was always happy and upbeat with a kind word for everyone. He was the first one to congratulate you after a great swim or give you words of encouragement after a bad swim.

Caleb was a very curious individual, asking as many questions as he could about everything, trying to learn and gain the experiences that others had.

Caleb's 100 and 200-yard backstroke events were among the top on the team, and have been improving dramatically in his brief time at the school. But his skill and talent in the pool were only a fraction of his contribution to the team and its members. His questions and his positive attitude will always remain in our memory.

On the morning of January 6, 2002 a loving brother and son, friend, and teammate was taken suddenly from us. In the short time that we knew this 'gentle giant' he had a tremendous effect on our team and personally touched each of our lives, our community and our hearts.

We are truly thankful for the time that we were given with Caleb Bohman, his wonderful smile and his fun-loving nature will be with us always.
