Chad Carvin Named 1997 U.S. Swimmer of the Year

BURLINGAME, Calif. – Chad Carvin, who battled back from a heart ailment that almost ended his swimming career, was named the 1997 U.S. Swimmer of the Year at the United States Aquatic Sports Convention.

Neil Walker and Lenny Krayzelburg tied for the 1997 Phillips Performance Award. Krayzelburg broke the American record in the 200m backstroke twice. Walker broke Pablo Morales’ 11-year old American record in the 100m butterfly.
