Performance of the Week: August 14, 2012

PHOENIX, Arizona, August 14. THE junior national championships is always a great place to find the future swimming stars, and boy, did we see one last night in the women's 200 breaststroke.

Allie Szekely won that event in 2:26.35, which was six tenths off Amanda Beard's national age group for the 13-14 age group. Obviously, Amanda Beard is a very well-known name, and that time that she swam to get that national age group record, about 2:25.7, was done at the 1996 Olympics, where Beard won the silver medal.

Szekely is looking good in the next four years to be one to watch in the Rio Olympic Trials. Congratulations Allie. You won our Performance of the Week!
