50 Freestyle Shoot Out

Oklahoma City, OK — $15,000 in prize money will be on the line in the 50 Freestyle during the 6th Annual Kerr-McGee Corporation Elite Pro-Am swim meet, December 18-21, 1997. The Kerr-McGee Corporation Elite Pro-Am is the nation’s only professional swim competition. The $15,000 50 Freestyle purse is in addition to over $30,000 in cash and prizes already offered.

The Jackie Cooper Shoot Out will be held Saturday evening, featuring the country’s top sprinters as they go head-to-head for a share of the $15,000 prize purse. Jackie Cooper, an Oklahoma City-based group of automotive companies which includes new vehicle dealerships and tire/electronic stores, is sponsoring this first-ever event in Oklahoma City.

The $15,000 prize purse will be divided equally among the men’s and women’s events, with the winner in each division taking home $6,000. Second place finishers will receive $1,500, with third place worth $500.00

The Jackie Cooper Shoot Out will be a tournament bracket-style event. Following the morning preliminary swims, the top eight women and men will faceoff in a series of head-to-head races during the evening Championship races. The single elimination races will culminate with the championship shoot out — one race, two people, head-to-head for $6,000.

Kerr-McGee Swim Club (KMSC), the host of the Kerr-McGee Corporation Elite Pro-Am, has commitments from three 1996 Olympic Gold Medalists, with several more expected. “Brad Schumacher, Amy Van Dyken, and Jenny Thompson are already committed to the meet,” said Jim Sullins, Meet Director. “Several others, including Gary Hall, Jr., Jon Olsen, John Hargis and Josh Davis have indicated they plan to participate. And, I’m sure that we will see them and many others.”

“Jackie Cooper Enterprises had been one of the meet’s Presenting Sponsors for the past three years,” Sullins said. “This meet has been an innovator from the first year. The addition of the Jackie Cooper Shoot Out continues the tradition of breaking new ground in swimming in the United States.”

The 6th Annual Kerr-McGee Corporation Elite Pro-Am and Jackie Cooper Shoot Out will be held at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Center. Over 500 of the country top Junior and Senior swimmers from across the nation will compete.
