Performance of the Week: May, 15, 2012

PHOENIX, Arizona, May 15. THE past seven days gave swimming fans a lot of competition around the world, and some of the usual suspects did very well. But here at Swimming World we continue to be impressed by the performances of one particular teenager, who had people buzzing about her Olympic potential after she swam at the Charlotte UltraSwim Grand Prix last week.

Katie Ledecky, a 15-year-old from Curl-Burke Swim Club, won the 800 free in a lifetime best 8:25.85 and almost beat Allison Schmitt in the 400 free with another best time of 4:05.79, which almost took down Janet Evans' national age group record. Keep an eye on Ledecky in these events at the U.S. Olympic Trials next month. She's looking more and more like a contender every day.

Congratulations to Katie Ledecky on winning our Performance of the Week.
