Poll of the Week: How Long Before The Olympics Is the Best Time to Hold an Olympic Trials?

PHOENIX, Arizona, April 8. THE men's NCAA championships featured a lot of exciting performances by some of the best college swimmers in history, and we wanted to know who you thought was the most impressive. And similar to our poll for the most impressive swimmer at the women's meet, our voters picked the swimmer of the meet, Tom Shields. Forty-seven percent said the 100 fly and 100 back champion was their choice for top swimmer, well ahead of 500 and 1650 champion Martin Grodzki and 100 breast winner Kevin Cordes, both of whom tied at 17.54 percent. Jimmy Feigen, the 50 and 100 freestyle winner, came in at 12.28 percent.

Now we're going to turn our attention to the issue of the moment: the Olympic Trials. Several countries have already held their Trials, while a few, such as Germany and the United States, are waiting until June to pick their squads.
