Georgia Tech Hires Baron

Atlanta, GA – Seth Baron, an assistant coach at South Carolina the last three years, has been named head coach of the men’s swim program at Georgia Tech, Director of Athletics Dave Braine announced Thursday. “I’m delighted to be able to add someone of Seth’s ability and experience to what is already an outstanding group of head coaches at Georgia Tech,” said Braine of the first head coach he has hired since being named Tech’s Director of Athletics in June.

“He has a wide range of experience in swimming at the collegiate, national and international levels. As an assistant coach with two highly-competitive programs at South Carolina and Auburn, he has demonstrated the ability to recruit and coach top talent. This is a tremendous step forward for our swimming program. With Georgia Tech’s academic reputation, coupled with our world-class swimming facility, we look forward to building a nationally-prominent program.

While at South Carolina, Baron assisted in all phases of the program under head coach Keith Switzer, helping the Gamecocks attract and develop recruiting classes that were ranked among the nation’s Top 10 the last two years. He helped train two all-America swimmers as well as four Olympic Trials qualifiers. Baron also worked this summer, serving as the head coach for the U.S. contingent at the World Maccabiah Games in Tel Aviv, Israel in July. “It’s very exciting to have the opportunity to build the swim program at Georgia Tech,” said Baron. “I was extremely impressed with everyone I met at Georgia Tech, especially the camaraderie among the coaches and the administration. The exposure that Georgia Tech and the aquatic center received during the Olympics will be invaluable in building the program. It’s a beautiful facility.”
