SHANGHAI, China, July 29. THE Brazilians are looking strong heading into the men's 50 free finale as the country sported the top two finishers in the semifinal heats at the FINA World Long Course Championships.

Bruno Fratus (21.76) and Cesar Cielo (21.79) finished 1-2 in the semifinal rounds. Cielo, who tested positive for furosemide at the Maria Lenk Trophy meet earlier in the year, but was given a pass with a warning after claims of a contaminated supplement, is looking to defend his world title from 2009.

"It's good to know that I have the speed to be faster tomorrow, so I'm really looking forward to the final," Cielo said. "I just pray to God that I will feel better, and feel no pressure."

Fratus, meanwhile, is looking for his first world championship hardware of any kind.

USA's Nathan Adrian qualified third in 21.94, while Italy's Luca Dotto and Hungary's Krisztian Takacs also cleared 22 seconds with fourth-seeded 21.97s.

South Africa's Gideon Louw (22.02), Trinidad's George Bovell (22.02) and France's Alain Bernard (22.07) also made the final heat.

"I'm just happy making it into the final right now," Bovell said. "Hopefully, I can do better in the final."
