Passages: Scott Heilman, 23

ORANGE BEACH, Alabama, July 28. MARINE and former competitive swimmer Scott Heilman Jr. died Sunday in Bayou St. John., according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.

Heilman, 23, was with a group of about five other people Sunday on a boat on an inlet not far off the Gulf of Mexico when he disappeared around 5:30 p.m. after last being seen at the bow of the boat to help with the anchor. No one in the party saw Heilman enter the water, and his body was found underneath the boat at 11:30 p.m.

Foul play is not suspected, and witnesses do not believe Heilman was intoxicated.

Heilman was a Marine who was participating in pilot training in Pensacola, Fla. He graduated from Toms River High School in New Jersey in 2006 and was captain of the school's swimming team, in addition to being named to the Asbury Park Press' All-Shore team in 2006. He attended the U.S. Merchant Marines Academy and participated as a member of the swimming team.
