YMCA Long Course Nationals: Middle Tyger Relay Sets National Record

ATLANTA, Georgia, July 27. THE YMCA Long Course Nationals reached and passed the halfway point today with the Middle Tyger Y from South Carolina winning four of the nine finals contested.

Middle Tyger's David Ingraham grabbed the win in the men's 100 fly. Ingraham, an incoming freshman at the University of Virginia, touched at 56.03, while Wyckoff's Leo Lim touched out Greater Flint's Andrew Yunker for runner-up honors, 56.40 to 56.45. Ingraham's teammate Jared Kauffman obliterated the field in the men's 200 breast. Kauffman, who will compete this fall for the Ohio State University, came in at 2:22.43. New Canaan's John Santoro touched second in 2:24.78, while Cheshire's Gregory Han picked up third in 2:24.83.

Middle Tyger's Katrina Konopka held off Cheshire's Elizabeth McDonald for the win in the women's 200 free, 2:05.01 to 2:05.07. Konopka, 14, won her second win of the week after winning the 50 free on Tuesday. Wilton's Katy Luchansky came in third at 2:05.71. Konopka went on to anchor Middle Tyger's 400 free relay to a national record time of 3:54.85, beating the 3:55.40 set by their teammates two years ago. Ali Snover, Sara Beth Drake, and Morgan Brooks also provided firepower on that relay.

Kishwaukee's Emily Launer broke 9:00 for the win in the women's 800 free, clocking 8:59.65. ME Lyons went 2-3 in the race, with Shaylynn Spelman coming in second at 9:01.52 and Kaitlyn Ferrara third in 9:02.99. Greater Flint's Courtney Weaver blasted the field for the win in the women's 100 fly, hitting the wall in 1:01.69. Brandywine's Elise Lankiewicz came in second at 1:01.69, and Rappahannock's Bailie Monahan touched third in 1:02.70.

Greater Holyoke's Meriza Werenski eased to a win in the women's 200 breast in 2:36.27, while Western North Carolina's Emily Marett hit the wall in 2:39.40. Sarasota's Bethany Leap ended up third in 2:40.11. Countryside's Steven Zimmerman rounded out the night's individual events with a tight win in the men's 200 free. Zimmerman clocked 1:54.83, just ahead of Triangle Area's Kevin Rogers, who touched in 1:54.89. Tri-Hampton's Dylan Ludwick rounded out the top-three in 1:54.92.

Cheshire's Kyle Neri, Connor Maher, Joseph Shepley, and Luke Zalewski brought home the final win of the night with a 3:31.30 victory in the men's 400 free relay.
