Grimes earned first-team All-America honors at the 2000 NCAA Championships with a sixth-place finish in the 1500-meter freestyle. He was an honorable
mention All-American in 1999 by placing ninth in the 1650-yard freestyle at the NCAAs.

Kim Black
Kim Black was one of two Georgia Bulldogs to win the NCAA scholarship; the other was basketball player Kelly Miller. Both women were named All-America and Academic All-America during 2001.

A native of Liverpool, N.Y., Black helped the Lady Bulldogs to their third straight NCAA championship and fifth consecutive SEC title this year. She was a member of the winning 800-yard freestyle relay team at the 2001 NCAAs and SECs. Black will be a member of the U.S. team for the World University Games in Beijing, China from Aug. 22-Sept. 1. There she will be
competing in the 800-meter free relay, the same event she earned a gold medal in at the 2000 Olympic Games.

Black, who is the daughter of James and Nancy Black, is a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and a Presidential Scholar at Georgia. This is Black's second accolade from the NCAA this spring as she was the female recipient of the prestigious Walter Byers Post-Graduate Scholarship.

Earlier this year, Black also was honored as the Verizon Academic All-America Fall/Winter Women's At-Large Team Member of the Year as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), and she was the female recipient of the 2000-2001 H. Boyd McWhorter Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award as well.

The scholarships earned by Black and Miller represent the 46th and 47th won by University of Georgia student-athletes, the fifth-highest total of any school in the nation. Black becomes the 15th recipient within the
women's swimming and diving program, while Miller becomes the second Lady Bulldog basketball player to earn the honor.
