Swimming Canada Calling Out Retired National Team Members to Compete in 2014 FINA World Masters Championships in Montreal

SHANGHAI, China, July 16. FOLLOWING a special bureau meeting prior to the 14th World Aquatic Championships in Shanghai, FINA, the international governing body for swimming, announced that Montreal had been selected to host the 2014 FINA World Masters Championships.

"We are very excited of this news and want to congratulate the city of Montreal and members of the bid committee for successfully obtaining the hosting for the 2014 World Masters Swimming Championships," said CEO and National Coach of Swimming Canada, Pierre Lafontaine, from Singapore where the FINA World Championships team is currently staging.

Calling out retired National Team members!

Pierre Lafontaine, CEO and National Coach for Swimming Canada will be reaching out to retired Canadian national team members to come back and represent Canada in Montreal.

"It would be really exciting to see our great swimmers from the past come out of retirement and compete once more for Canada in front of a home crowd," added Lafontaine.

"With three years to go until the championships, we greatly encourage our National Team Alumni to get back in the water and train."

This event will attract between 8,000 and 10,000 athletes to Montreal over a period of 14 days. The five aquatics sports will be represented, swimming, water-polo, diving, synchronized swimming and open water swimming. Athletes from 60 countries around the world will participate in this event. The ages are 25 and older in swimming, open water swimming and diving, 30 and over in water-polo and 20 and over in synchronized swimming.
