NC State Hires Todd DeSorbo as Assistant Coach

RALEIGH, North Carolina, July 12. NC State swimming and diving head coach Braden Holloway announced today that sprint and development specialist Todd DeSorbo has joined the Wolfpack program as associate head coach. DeSorbo comes to Raleigh after five seasons as an assistant coach at UNC Wilmington.

"Todd DeSorbo is a very respected swimming coach and he will be a tremendous asset to this program," said Holloway. "He is a high-energy coach, and he knows how to maximize speed. I have been very impressed with Todd's achievements while with the Seahawks.

"Todd is a great communicator with student-athletes, and he is extremely passionate about swimming — and swimming fast."

As associate head coach at State, DeSorbo will oversee recruiting, training and day-to-day program operations.

"I'm honored to be a part of the NC State family and athletic department," said DeSorbo. "I'm highly excited for the opportunity to work with Coach Holloway and the Wolfpack program, and I'm looking forward to continuing the rich tradition at NC State and competing at the highest levels of the ACC and NCAA.

"I'm very thankful of Coach Holloway and the administration at NC State for this opportunity."

At UNCW, DeSorbo assisted with all facets of the Seahawk program, including recruiting, student-athlete development and practice. During DeSorbo's tenure in Wilmington the Seahawk men won five of 10 straight CAA titles and the women finished in the top-three of the conference every year. The UNCW men's and women's 200 sprint freestyle relays both set CAA conference records, and the women's sprinters won every 200 sprint freestyle relay over the past two seasons.

Student-athletes directly under his tutelage set 35 school records, earned 100 all-conference honors, won 32 individual and relay conference championships, and collected 80 top-three conference finishes. Two student-athletes also qualified for NCAA competition under his direction.

Prior to joining the UNCW staff full-time, DeSorbo served as the head swim coach for the Cape Fear Aquatic Club from 2005-07, and was a graduate assistant at UNCW from 1999-2000.

DeSorbo began his collegiate swimming career at Kentucky before transferring to UNCW in 1998-99. As a senior at UNCW, DeSorbo was named CAA Championships Swimmer of the Meet in 1999 after winning titles in the 200 backstroke, and both the 200 and 400 individual medley. He set school records in both the 200 and 400 individual medley, and made the All-ECAC team in 1999 by winning the 400 individual at the Eastern Championships.

DeSorbo holds two accounting degrees from UNCW, earning a bachelor's degree in 1999 and a master's degree in 2000.

A native of Salisbury, N.C., DeSorbo is married to Lauren Suggs. They have one son, Jack.
