PHOENIX, Arizona, July 11. RYAN Lochte, Elizabeth Beisel and others got in some very last-minute racing this weekend before hopping on a plane with the rest of the USA world championship team to training camp in Australia.

At the USA Swimming sectional meet in Gainesville, Florida, Lochte swam a 1:59.1 in the 200 IM and 1:49.09 in the 200 free. Lochte will be racing both of those events, as well as the 200 back and 400 IM, in two weeks at worlds. Elizabeth Beisel swam only off events last weekend, and showed she's in the running for a spot on the Olympic team next year in the 800 free relay with a lifetime best of 1:59.17 in the 200 freestyle. She backed that up with times of 2:14.9 in the 200 IM, 1:02.9 in the 100 back and 2:12.65 in the 200 fly. Peter Vanderkaay, Conor Dwyer and Dagny Knutson also put up some good swims, with each just off their season-best times. Knutson showed some promise in her new training environment with a 400 free time of 4:10.29. You can read more results from the meet by going to our USA channel at swimmingworld.com.

Brendan Hansen showed some consistency last weekend in his comeback quest with a 1:01.59 in the 100 breast and 2:16.28 in the 200 at the Texas senior circuit meet. Look for Hansen to be a contender for a national title, and a spot on the Pan American Games team, next month.

The British youth team won the most gold medals last week at the European junior championships with six wins, compared to five for Italy and four for Germany. Germany was helped to their medal tally by Christian Diener, who won all three backstroke events. Bence Biczo of Hungary was the star of the meet, posting a dominating win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.25 after a stellar 1:55.82 in semis. Biczo will attend world championships in a couple of weeks as the second-fastest in the world in the 200 fly, just behind Japan's Takeshi Matsuda and ahead of reigning world champ Michael Phelps.
