USA Diving Completes World Championships Roster

TALLAHASSEE, Florida, May 15. USA Diving completed its 2011 World Championships team roster Sunday, when synchronized teams for women's 3-meter and men's 10-meter and individual spots for men's 1-meter were selected.

Three new divers were named to the squad and three others added a second event to their schedules for the worlds, which are set for July 16-24 in Shanghai, China, and will serve as the first opportunity for countries to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games. In all, 14 divers (six men and eight women) have been selected to the roster, which includes six members of the 2008 Olympic team.

2008 Olympian Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ill./The Woodlands, Texas) and junior world champion Kassidy Cook (The Woodlands, Texas) won the women's 3-meter synchro berth, and 2008 Olympian David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind./West Lafayette, Ind.) and Nick McCrory (Chapel Hill, N.C./Durham, N.C.) earned the men's 10-meter synchro spot. The 1-meter spots went to 2008 Olympian Chris Colwill (Brandon, Fla./Athens, Ga.) and Aaron Fleshner (Spring, Texas/Tuscaloosa, Ala.).

Loukas, who had already qualified for worlds in the individual 3-meter, paired with the 16-year-old Cook to win a close contest for the 3-meter synchro spot. Loukas and Cook scored 942 points over three lists, edging out 2008 Olympian Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill./Minneapolis, Minn.) and Abby Johnston (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Durham, N.C.) by 4.2 points for the world berth.

Boudia and McCrory put together a three-list total of 1448.58 in men's 10-meter synchro, highlighted by a back 3 ½ that earned seven 10s for 105.84 points in the final list on Sunday. They had already been selected to compete in the individual 10-meter events in Shanghai.

Colwill secured his spot on the world team with a two-list total of 878.15 points in the men's 1-meter trials, with Fleshner qualifying second with 770.25 points.
