NCAA Division III Championships: Kenyon Men, Emory Women Remain in Lead

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, March 25. NIGHT three of the NCAA Division III men's and women's championships still has the Kenyon men and Emory women leading the way in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Kenyon men have 362.5 points, leading conference rival Denison, which is in second with 327.5. Emory (271.5), MIT (161), Redlands (152), Williams (151), Amherst (147), Johns Hopkins (133), Kalamazoo (121), and Middlebury (101) are the other teams with more than 100 points. The Emory women have a commanding lead over Denison, 420 to 328, with Williams (301) in third, Kenyon (276) in fourth, and College of New Jersey (162) in fifth. Stevens (136), Claremont Mudd-Scripps (108), Johns Hopkins (107), Amherst (97) and Carthage (69) round out the top 10.

Continuing her winning ways Williams Junior Logan Todhunter won her third event of the meet winning the 200 butterfly in 1:57.61. Todhunter finished just off her national record frosetm last year. Hannah Saiz of Kenyon finished second in 2:00.84 while Sarah Murphy of Connecticut College finished third in 2:01.35.

Patrick Augustyn of Emory defeated last years champion John Dillon of Middlebury 1:46.87 to 1:48.18. Augustyn was off Dillons national record from last year. Christopher Depew of Redlands finished third in 1:48.22. Dillon already won the 100 butterfly last night.

Freshman Margaret Rosenbaum of Hamilton won her first national championship in the 100 backstroke in a time of 55.21. She defeated Sadie Nennig a freshman from Emory who finished in 55.80. Kale Zicafoose of Carleton finished third in 55.84.

Robert Barry of Denison won the 100 backstroke in 48.39. He defeated Connecticut College junior Timothy Walsh finished second in 48.99. Ross Speck of Emory finished third in 49.03.

April Whitley of Emory won a close battle in the 100 breaststroke over Ksenia Golovkina of Denison 1:02.11 to 1:02.32. Imelda Wistley of Grinnel scored the first points of the meet for her team finishing third in 1:02.81.

Rory Buck of Whitworth won the men's 100 breastsroke in 54.30 over Kenyon senior Collin Ohning and Staten Island senior Pavel Buyanov who still holds the national record from two years ago. Ohning finished in 54.86 while Buyanov finished in 54.93.

Danica Roskos of College of New Jersey won the women's 1 meter diving with 515.90 points crushing the national record set two years ago. Hayley Emerick of Trinity (Tx) finished second with 458.50 and Jennifer Easton of St. Thomas finished third in 438.30.

The Denison women won the 800 freestyle relay in a national record setting time of 7:19.11. Alyssa Swanson, Marit Wangstad, Emily Schroeder, and Hilary Callen defeated the Emory team of Anne Culpepper, Whitley Taylor, Kathryn Mroz, and Elizabeth Horvat who were also under the national record in 7:20.22. Kenyon finished third in 7:25.57.

The Denison men's team followed up their women's team success by winning the 800 freestyle relay in 6:34.50 over Amherst who finished in 6:35.82. The Denison team was made up of Carlos Maciel, Spencer Fronk, Daniel Thurston, and Allen Weik while the Amherst relay was made up of Ryan Lichtenfels, Tim White, Parker Moody, and Alex Fraser.

The meet concludes tomorrow with the 100 free, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 1650 free, men's 3 meter diving, 400 free relay.
