NCAA Division I Women’s Championships: Maggie Meyer Claims Wisconsin’s First NCAA Title

AUSTIN, Texas, March 19. IN her final meet for Wisconsin, Maggie Meyer realized her potential and claimed Wisconsin's first NCAA title with a strong 200-yard back at the NCAA Division I Women's Championships.

Meyer knocked out a time of 1:50.76 to move up to a sixth-place tie in the all time lists, and kept the title in the Big Ten Conference after Kate Fesenko topped the event last year for Indiana. Meyer's time tied for 14th on the all time performances list.

"I feel really tired and really relieved," Meyer said. "It was my dream to be an NCAA Champion, but I didn't really feel that was in my grasp until about 35 yards to go. I was happy I could be strong and bring it home. I was thinking about moving my arms as fast as I could and moving as much water as possible. I wasn't really aware of where my competition was, I just wanted to get to the wall."

Missouri's Dominique Bouchard turned in a 1:51.54 to move to 11th all time, while Florida's Elizabeth Beisel checked in with a third-place 1:51.60 – just off her lifetime best of 1:51.55 from SECs this year.

Florida's Teresa Crippen (1:51.61), Stanford's Maya Dirado (1:52.45), USC's Presley Bard (1:52.76), Georgia's Kelsey Gaid (1:53.70) and California's Deborah Roth (1:53.80) rounded out the top eight.

California's Stephanie Au won the B final in 1:53.33, while Arizona's Aubrey Peacock took 10th in 1:53.78. Arizona's Hannah Ross (1:54.00), Arizona's Sarah Denninghoff (1:54.31), Virginia's Meredith Cavalier (1:54.35), Missouri's Lauren Lavigna (1:54.47), Texas' Katie Riefenstahl (1:54.65) and Penn State's Amy Modglin (1:55.05) made up the consolation heat.

Georgia remained in the lead with 319.5 points, while California held second with 315 points. USC (282), Stanford (206) and Arizona (202) stood third through fifth.
