NCAA Division I Women’s Championships: Minnesota’s Kelci Bryant Wins One-Meter Diving Event

AUSTIN, Texas, March 17. MINNESOTA's Kelci Bryant snatched the women's one-meter diving title at the NCAA Division I Women's Championships.

Bryant tallied 349.65 points in the finale for Minnesota's first NCAA title in the one-meter diving event. Missouri's Loren Figueroa placed second with 335.30 points, while Stanford's Margaret Hostage took third overall with 327.65 points.

"I was thinking through my dive," Bryant said about her title-clinching final dive. "I was kind of zoning out. I wasn't stressing too much. I was having fun. I think I kind had it in my head that I had (the competition) in the bag already. I tried not to focus on what bad could happen."

Ohio State's Bianca Alvarez (325.15), Duke's Abby Johnston (324.30), Auburn's Vennie Dantin (318.65), Hawaii's Emma Friesen (315.45) and Miami (Florida)'s Carrie Dragland (314.85) completed the top eight.

USC's Victoria Ishimatsu topped the consolation final with 336.50 points. Miami (Florida)'s Brittany Viola (313.05), Minnesota's Margaret Keefer (299.00), Purdue's Erin Mertz (297.05), Iowa's Veronica Rydze (296.65), Texas' Maren Taylor (288.95), Iowa's Deidre Freeman (286.30) and Kentucky's Lisa Faulkner (278.55) finished 11th through 16th.

Stanford closed the distance with Georgia, trailing only 105 to 94, heading into the 400 medley relay. USC (88), California (75) and Auburn (68) held third through fifth with one last relay to go on the first night of action.
