National Junior College Athletics Association National Championships: Tryshia Centeno, Bryce Bohman Down NJCAA Records; Indian River Keeps Rolling

BUFFALO, New York, March 4. TWO more NJCAA records took a tumble during the third night of short course yard swimming at the National Junior College Athletics Association National Championships. Additionally, Indian River State College kept rolling toward its 37th and 30th straight men's and women's NJCAA team titles.

The IRSC women pushed their top total to 566 points with Daytona State taking second with 419.5 points. Lincoln (318), Darton (299.5) and Monroe (223) finished second through fifth to end the night. The IRSC men finished the evening with 662 points, while Daytona State held second with 535 points. Lincoln sat third with 372 points, while Darton (183) and Monroe (172) were fourth and fifth.

IRSC's Tryshia Centeno downed the NJCAA record in the women's 100 breast with a winning time of 1:02.96. That performance beat the 1999 record of 1:03.14 set by IRSC's Kathy Echiverri. DSC's Kim Collymore (1:04.98) and IRSC's Katie Kittrell (1:05.37) placed second and third.

Lincoln's Bryce Bohman lowered his NJCAA record (48.18) in the men's 100 back set as a relay leadoff on the first night with an individual victory with a 48.11. IRSC's Harry Traystman took second in 49.52, while teammate Caleb Weir wound up third in 50.49.

IRSC's Amanda Lukovic dominated the women's 400 IM in 4:34.73, while Lincoln's Maggie Rea finished second in 4:38.12. Daytona State's Sara Akoubian placed third in 4:40.13. Indian River's John Ellis cruised to victory in the men's 400 IM with a 3:56.44. Teammates CJ Reall (4:07.90) and Joe Strauss (4:10.39) finished second and third.

Daytona State's Eve Karlsson touched out IRSC's Sarah D'Antoni, 56.87 to 56.93, in the women's 100 fly. IRSC's Annie Cohoat earned third in 57.03. IRSC's Nick Schuttinger hit the wall in 48.51 to win the men's 100 fly. DSC's Dylan Varner (50.02) and IRSC's Garland Sullivan (50.11) completed the podium.

IRSC swept the podium in the women's 200 free with Vanessa Hanbury (1:50.15), Andrea Uzcategui (1:54.30) and Stephanie Doran (1:54.52) finishing 1-2-3. IRSC's Lucas Akker snagged the men's 200 free crown in 1:40.57. DSC's John Jessell took second in 1:41.02, while IRSC's Michael Lucchesi placed third in 1:41.27.

IRSC went 1-2-3 again in the women's 100 back. Stephanie Doran won in 56.86, while Katie Pheil (56.97) and Natalie Lenderman (57.17) took second and third. IRSC's Jared Pike claimed the men's 100 breast in 54.36. DSC's Deniz Hekmati touched second in 56.28, while IRSC's Chandler Gerlach earned third in 56.49.

In relay action, IRSC's Stephanie Doran, Tryshia Centeno, Annie Cohoat and Celeste Degen won the women's 200 medley relay in 1:44.13. IRSC's Harry Traystman, Jared Pike, Nick Schuttinger and Michael Lucchesi snagged the men's 200 medley relay title in 1:29.78.
