Kristian Ipsen, Jessica Parratto Capture Victories at USA Diving Winter National Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa, February 4. KRISTIAN Ipsen (Clayton, Calif.) and Jessica Parratto (Dover, N.H./Indianapolis, Ind.) finished atop the men's 3-meter and women's 10-meter semifinal standings Thursday at the USA Diving Winter National Championships to lead the field of divers advancing to Saturday's finals.

Their scores won't carry forward to Saturday's finals for the purpose of declaring the national champion, but Ipsen and Parratto will have an edge in international team selection as cumulative scores from the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be used to determine the divers who represent the U.S. at the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix in May and the FINA World Championships in July.

Ipsen combined for 1,016.80 points in the men's 3-meter quarterfinals and semifinals, while his synchro partner Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif./Austin, Texas), a three-time Olympian, finished second with 973.55. Drew Livingston (The Woodlands, Texas/Austin, Texas) ended the semifinals in third place with 937.90 points, and Harrison Jones (Spring, Texas/Los Angeles, Calif.) was fourth at 873.70.

Parratto totaled 680.70 points to lead after the semifinals; she was in fourth place after the quarterfinals but came through with 350.75 points in the semis to finish as the top qualifier to the finals. Brittany Viola (Orlando, Fla./Coral Gables, Fla.) took second with 670.15 points, followed by Katie Bell (Columbus, Ohio) at 652.30 and Anna James (Midland, Texas) at 651.50.

The four divers with the highest cumulative scores from the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals who also meet the degree of difficulty requirements will be named to the AT&T Grand Prix team.

The USA Diving Winter National Championships continue through Sunday, February 6. Friday's competition starts at 10 a.m. and features men's 10-meter quarterfinals and women's 3-meter quarterfinals and semifinals.
