Boise State, Oregon State vs. Seattle

SEATTLE, Washington, February 5. BOISE State women's swimming and diving earned nine overall victories to cruise to a pair of wins in double-dual-meet action Saturday, in Seattle. The Broncos (13-1) defeated Oregon State 178-83, and beat host Seattle 190-71.

Juniors Amber Boucher and Stephanie North, and sophomore Jennifer Cahill each garnered two overall individual wins. Boucher won the 200-yard freestyle in the seventh-fastest time in school history and a Connolly Center record. Her winning time in the 100-yard butterfly ranks No. 3 on the all-time list at Boise State. North claimed the 50- and 100-yard freestyle titles, while Cahill was victorious in the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle events. Junior Morgan McLain added the overall individual win in the 200-yard individual medley.

"We performed well today and exceeded expectations in a few areas. Amber's 200 free and 100 fly times were phenomenal," said head coach Kristin Hill. "Stephanie's 100 freestyle was a great swim. We also had a number of strong finishes in close races."

With the wins, Boise State has a head-to-head win against each NCAA Division I swimming program in the states of Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

"We've made it a goal to be the premier swimming and diving program in the northwest, and though the true test is at the end at our championships and NCAA's, this season has been a great breakthrough for us," Hill said.

The victory against the Beavers not only gives Boise State the unofficial northwest crown for 2010-11, it is also the first win against Oregon State in school history. Along with beating Washington State last month, this is the second win against a Pacific-10 Conference opponent this season for the Broncos, another program first. It is the Broncos' third win of the season against the Redhawks.

In addition to the nine overall victories, Boise State added wins against Seattle in the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes, and 200-yard butterfly. Freshman Rachel Heaney led the Boise State in the 200-yard butterfly with the fifth-fastest time in school history. Senior Denise Green led the way in the 100-yard backstroke while McLain won the longer backstroke competition. The Broncos swept the Redhawks in four events.

Boise State picked up additional wins against the Beavers in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events, by senior Kelly Forrester and freshman Chelsea Miller, respectively.

The Broncos took the overall victory in both relay events. The meet started with Boise State clocking the fifth-best time in the 200-yard medley relay and ended with the No. 9 time in the 400-yard medley relay. Green led off the 200-yard medley relay with the No. 4 time in program history in the 50-yard backstroke. Boucher led off the 400-yard freestyle with the eighth-fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Shanelle Choi swam a career best in the 100-yard freestyle to place second overall in the event. Freshman Brooke Balogh's time in the 200-yard butterfly was good for third place and a career best.

Senior Kim Nelson posted a career best in the 50-yard freestyle in the final dual meet of her career. Also setting season bests Saturday, were freshman Olivia Harrell (100-yard freestyle; 100-yard butterfly) and juniors Paige LaPorte and Emily Irvin (500-yard freestyle).

The Broncos are now 27-5 in dual meets the past two seasons, and will look to defend their Western Athletic Conference championship Feb. 23-26, in San Antonio.
