Passages: St Peter’s Prep B.J. Giannone

MOUNTAINSIDE, New Jersey, February 1. ACCORDING to the Jersey Journal, St. Peter's Prep senior high school swimmer B.J. Giannone died after a meet at St. Peter's College yesterday.

Giannone, who had just finished swimming the 200 freestyle (there is still confusion on whether it was yards or meters), began suffering either "chest pain or felt dizzy, then fell face down, where he hit his head on the floor."

Giannone was then rushed to the hospital after a trainer performance mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Additionally, a defibrillator was used on scene.

Giannone was later pronounced dead at the Jersey City Medical Center, where his cause of death has yet to be determined.

This was Giannone's first year swimming for St. Peter's Prep.

"He wasn't complaining at all," St. Peter's Prep coach Ryan Heffernan told the Jersey Journal. "There was nothing out of the ordinary. I was even talking to him after the relay about his swim. It's all a huge blur right now."
