Nebraska vs. Iowa State

AMES, Iowa, January 29. THE Nebraska swimming and diving team defeated Iowa State, 174-126 on Saturday afternoon. The Huskers went 2-0 on the brief road-trip and the win marks the Husker's sixth dual win of the year.

The Huskers shot out of the gate, winning the first three events of the day. The 200-yard medley relay team finished first, with Bailey Pons winning the 1,000-yard freestyle and Hayley Martin winning the 200-yard freestyle immediately after. ISU's Danielle Harris and Jeli Nixt combined to win events 4 and 5, the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard breaststroke before Nebraska went on a four-event run which saw Lexie Halberstadt earn two wins in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.

Blaine Hoppenrath won the 200-yard butterfly while Payton Michaud won the 3-meter dive. The Huskers took the top-three spots in the dive, with Kaitlan Walker and Alyson Ramsey finishing second and third. Michaud also earned her second win of the day in the 1-meter dive event, with Amy Herman finishing second.

Iowa State fought back with wins in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard breaststroke,but NU's Bailey Pons won the 500-yard freestyle and Lexie Halberstadt notched her third win of the day in the 100-yard butterfly.

ISU won the last two events of the day, but it wasn't enough as the Huskers had pulled away.

The Huskers will return home to face the Missouri Tigers on senior day, Feb. 5 at the Devaney Natatorium at 2 p.m.
