2024 Olympic Hopefuls Make Their Debut -- June 28, 2001
PHOENIX, June 28. TWO of the USA's most celebrated swim stars of recent years became proud parents earlier this month.
On June 16, Angel and Mike Martino welcomed their second child into the world. Mark Kirtley Martino made his debut at a hefty 8 pounds 9 ounces, and measured 20-1/2 inches long.
Angel was a gold medalist for the USA on both the 1992 and '96 US Olympic teams. Mike is a coach and university professor. The couple has another son, Michael, age 2.
Three days later, Byron Davis became a dad for the first time when his wife, Annett Buckner Davis, gave birth to a son, Mya Gabriel Davis. Mya is a bit more slender than Mark, packing 6 pounds and 14 ounces of hard body on a 20-1/2 inch frame.
Byron Davis just missed making the 1996 US Olympic team in the 100m butterfly. Annett was a member of the 2000 US Olympic beach volleyball team. Byron reports that Mya definitely has a swimmer's body: "big hands and big feet."
Congratulations to the Martinos and Davises.
