Johns Hopkins vs. St. Mary’s

ST. MARY'S CITY, Maryland, January 21. SOPHOMORE Billy DeBoissiere (Columbia, Md./Atholton) established a school record in the 1000 freestyle as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team dropped a 134-62 decision to No. 4 Johns Hopkins University (4-1) Friday afternoon.

DeBoissiere finished second in the 1000 free event in 10:05.33, knocking off Joey Quase '09 five-year old mark of 10:11.00 (2006). He captured the 100 breaststroke in 59.85 to wrap up meet action.

First-year Thor Petersen (Germantown, Md./Northwest) had a solid performance for the Seahawks (4-6) as Petersen finished second in the 500 freestyle in 4:59.06, third in the 200 freestyle, and sixth in the 100 butterfly.

Senior captain Jackson Webb (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) picked up a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 22.59 and fourth in the 100 butterfly.

St. Mary's looks forward to its Capital Athletic Conference meet at Salisbury University tomorrow. The meet starts at 1:00 pm.

The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team received solid swims from senior captain Sofia Sokolove (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), sophomore Kelly Heyde (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and first-year Erin O'Connor (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) as the Seahawks picked up a 131-69 loss to No. 5 Johns Hopkins University (4-2) Friday afternoon.

Heyde was an individual winner for St. Mary's as she captured the 100 butterfly in 1:00.19. She also recorded a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle events.

Sokolove finished second as part of the 200 medley relay while coming in third in the 200 individual medley (2:18.48).

O'Connor notched two fourth-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle and 100 freestyle events.

The Seahawks (8-3) will resume Capital Athletic Conference action tomorrow as St. Mary's travels to the Eastern Shore to take on Salisbury University. The meet starts at 1:00 pm.
