South Dakota State vs. Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS, Missouri, January 15. IN the first meet of 2011, the Saint Louis men's swimming and diving team downed South Dakota State 144-99, while the Jackrabbits downed the Billiken women 136-107. The teams will swim another dual meet Sunday morning at 10 a.m. in Simon Recreation Center.

For the men, Jimmy Brabbins, Brian Brasser, Will Butzke and B.J. Sayre took the 400 medley relay as the Billikens claimed the early lead. Patrick Merlihan touched first in the 1,000 free in 9:54.32. Stephen Sheridan clocked a 22-flat in the 50 free, good for first place. Michael Dahle tucked under the two-minute mark to claim the 200 IM in 1:59.70. Sheridan and Sayre recorded a 1-2 finish for the Bills in the 100 free. Dahle was first to the wall in the 200 back for his second win of the evening. Merlihan completed a sweep of the distance events with a 4:50.40 in the 500 free. Sayre, Mike Kelly, Brabbins and Sheridan closed out the SLU win with a triumph in the 400-free relay.

Molly Sheridan claimed the first victory for the Billiken women with a 24.99 in the 50 free to hold off two SDSU sprinters. Taylor Streid won the 200 IM by nearly five seconds by clocking a 2:10.59. Sarah Sikora notched a win for SLU edging SDSU's Emma Wright by 0.24 of a second in the 200 fly. Sheridan notched her second win of the evening with a 55.05 in the 100 free. Streid again was impressive in the 200 back in winning by nearly four seconds.

In the diving competition, the Billikens swept the one-meter board. Christiana Eltiste won both events for the women, while Chad Carmichael was twice victorious for the SLU men. Billy Hrabovsky picked up second place for the Billikens on both occasions, too.
