Passages: Cindy Makens Fearnley, 38

SAN DIEGO, California, January 13. CINDY Makens Fearnley, a former swimmer at the University of Southern California, died Tuesday after a four-year battle with breast cancer, according to an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. She was 38 years old.

Makens Fearnley died in San Diego, where she recently moved to after living in Norway with her husband, Nils Fearnley, and two children as a manager of a golf course.

Makens Fearnley was born and raised in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, where she earned All-State honors and was captain of the swim team at Convent of the Visitation High School. She competed collegiately for Southern Cal from 1991 to 1994 as a sprint butterflyer, freestyler and backstroker.

A Mass was held today in San Diego, with a mass and burial to take place later in Norway, according to the article. The family plans to hold a memorial service in the Twin Cities area as well.
