Kansas vs. Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tennessee, January 8. SENIOR Iuliia Kuzhil and freshman Alison Lusk both won two events to lead the University of Kansas swimming and diving team past Vanderbilt, 182-75, Saturday at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, Tenn. KU is now 6-4 in dual competition this season.

"This was a good meet to conclude our winter trip," Kansas head coach Clark Campbell said. "We faced several challenges this week, both in training and racing, which will help us down the road."

Kuzhil, a senior from Cherkasy, Ukraine, placed first in both the 100-yard backstroke (56.97) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.57). Lusk, a freshman from Chattanooga, Tenn., took the top spot in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.93) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.55).

Other Kansas winners included junior Shannon Garlie, who won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:12.22), freshman Morgan Sharp, who took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.60), senior captain Brittany Potter, who won the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.62), Amanda Maez, who was crowned champion of the 50-yard freestyle (24.37), sophomore Monica Johannessen, who placed first the 100-yard freestyle (53.22), sophomore Rebecca Swank, who took the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.71), and junior Abigail Anderson, who won the 100-yard butterfly (57.04).

The Jayhawks will return home to face Arkansas on Thursday at Robinson Natatorium. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
