Texas Christian vs. UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nevada, January 7. TCU men's swimming and diving dropped its first dual-meet in nearly two years, falling to UNLV by a score of 157-136. The Lady Rebels downed the TCU women, 161-139.

Trailing 137-120 with two events remaining, the TCU men needed wins in the 200-individual medley and 400-freestyle relay. Senior Andy Garcia-Montes provided the spark for the Frogs with a win in the 200-individual medley.

In the 400-freestyle relay, the Horned Frogs needed to finish in at least first and third places. However, after junior standout Laszlo Gyurko's goggles broke in the leadoff leg, TCU could muster only a third place finish and the 16th-ranked Rebels clinched the win.

Going into the dual, TCU had won 11-straight dual-meets, including nine-straight against Mountain West Conference competition. Before Friday night, TCU last dropped a dual meet on Jan. 9, 2009.

With the win, UNLV improved to 4-1, 2-0 MWC. The Frogs fell to 2-1, 2-1. After TCU picked up its first win in school history to clinch the MWC regular season title a year ago, the Rebels appeared ready for the upstart Frogs in 2011.

Frog wins leaders Edgar Crespo and Laszlo Gyurko returned to work in the new year. Crespo won the 100-breaststroke and 200-breaststroke for his fifth and sixth wins of the season. Gyurko notched wins in the 100-backstroke and 200-backstroke to break his total to five.

Kyle Callens also added wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard dive for his third and fourth wins of the year. Friedrich Grott was a winner in the 200-butterfly.

TCU's women fell to 2-3, 2-3, while UNLV improved to 4-4, 3-2.

Sophomore Sabine Rasch picked up two wins on the night, bringing her total to eight for the year. She won the 50-freestyle and 100-freestyle.

Freshmen Michelle Fleming and Amanda Vincent notched three wins on the night for TCU. Fleming was a winner in the 100-breaststroke and 200-breaststroke, while Vincent won the 200-butterfly.

Katie Lybbert picked up wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard for the women's squad's first diving wins of the season. The TCU 400-freestyle relay team was also a winner Friday evening.
