Radford vs. North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Florida, January 7. THE University of North Florida swimming and diving team recorded a pair of victories on Senior Day over Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association rival Radford on Friday, Jan. 7, at the UNFAquaticCenter.

The Ospreys won the first meet of the afternoon 85-27 and claimed the second meet 98-33. North Florida won all 13 events of the afternoon, taking the top two spots in a majority of the events.

"It was a great day and Senior Day is always two fold," head coach Beth Harrell stated after the meet. "You always want your seniors to swim well and to go out with a win, but it is also sad because you have been with these kids for a long time and watching them move on is hard. You want them to stay around for four more years, but I think they are glad to be graduating. We have enjoyed all of them and we were excited to get some wins. We swam really well."

The Ospreys began the day with a victory in the 200 yard medley relay. The quartet of freshman Gemma Hoffman, sophomore Katie England, sophomore Caylin Drews and freshman Victoria Frascino edged out fellow UNF relay team of junior Gala Poon, freshman Ana Castro, junior Krista Teresak and senior Ashley Fernaays to claim the event.

Sophomore Kirsten Orndorff, senior Allison Fethe and freshman Alexis Regan finished one, two, three, respectively, in the 1,000 freestyle. In the 200 free, sophomore Sara Evans and freshman Erin Hofrichter finished first and second, in that order.

The Ospreys once again finished one-two in the 50 freestyle as a pair of seniors – Kuehl and Fernaays – took the top two spots in the event. Evans once again finished in first place, taking top honors in the 200 individual medley, while England placed second.

In the final event of the first meet of the day, sophomore Julia Moomaw claimed a first place victory in the 1-meter diving. True freshman Genette Bergman earned a third place finish in the event.

The second meet of the afternoon was similar to the first with the Ospreys dominating each event.

Meet two started with the 100 butterfly which Drews won, finishing three second ahead of teammate Castro. Kuehl won the 100 freestyle and Frascino earned the victory in the 100 backstroke.

In the 500 freestyle, Orndorff and Drews finished first and second, respectively, with Regan earning a third place finish.

In 3-meter diving, Moomaw picked up her second victory of the day and the fourth in the last week. The Orlando native also won the 1-meter and 3-meter events against UNC-Wilmington earlier in the week.

During the final individual event of the day, Evans earned her third first place finish of the day to win the 100 breaststroke. England finished just behind Evans for a second place finish.

In the final event of the afternoon, the Ospreys finished first and second in the 200 freestyle relay. The UNF team of Kuehl, Frascino, Fernaays and Hofricther finished just ahead of fellow Ospreys, Venables, Poon, Orndorff and Hoffman.

North Florida returns to action on Friday, Jan. 14, as the Ospreys travel to Fort Myers, Fla. to face off against FloridaGulfCoast. The meet is slated for 6 p.m.
