FINA World Short Course Championships: Ous Mellouli’s Morning Swim Holds Up For Gold in 1500 Free

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 19. TUNISIA's Ous Mellouli charted a strong enough time in heat two of the men's 1500 free this morning to carry him to the gold medal at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

Mellouli turned in a 14:24.16 that beat his African record of 14:34.31 this morning. That time stood up to Denmark's Mads Glaesner, who picked up second-place honors in 14:29.52. Glaesner has been faster with a national record of 14:26.74 set last year.

Hungary's Gergely Gyurta earned third-place honors with a time of 14:31.47 to complete the podium winners.

Italy's Federico Colbertaldo (14:33.92), USA's Peter Vanderkaay (14:35.25), France's Sebastien Rouault (14:42.79), Tunisia's Ahmed Mathlouthi (14:43.25) and Brazil's Lucas Kanieski (14:45.51) rounded out the top eight in the distance event.
