Second Round Complete at FINA Men’s Water Polo World League Competition

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, December 8. THE second round of the European groups of the FINA Men's Water Polo World League 2011 was curiously marked by the victory of all the visiting teams in the six matches held on December 7, 2010.

In Group A, Serbia got its second win in the competition, defeating Germany in Magdeburg by 13-9. Defeated in round one, Spain went to Skopje to overcome local team FYR Macedonia by 12-8.

In Group B, the team of Montenegro didn't find special difficulties to overcome Romania in Oradea by 15-6. It is also the second consecutive triumph of the Montenegrins in the competition, after an initial win over Turkey. Precisely in Istanbul, the locals could not do better, losing 3-9 against Russia. This is presently the most balanced group, with Montenegro in front, but Russia and Romania tied in the second position.

Finally, in Group C, and despite playing in Athens, Greece accumulated its second loss of the competition, after being defeated by Croatia by 4-10. Even more impressive was the victory of Italy in Eindhoven, where they beat the local Netherlands by a comfortable 16-6. Both Italy and Croatia (that will meet in round 3) lead the group with six points and two victories each.
